“The time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time.”
— Bertrand Russell
I absolutely adore this quote that I received in an email from “The Happiness Project”!
It got me thinking about what we consider to be “wasting time”, and whether we can actually count these moments as “wasted”. Take me for instance, I spent all afternoon yesterday sitting in the sun with my good friend, drinking tea, throwing a stick for her dog, chatting and laughing about some really stupid things. I absolutely, unequivocally did not achieve a single thing. But I enjoyed every moment of it.
It’s so important to cherish these moments that can sometimes pass us by as “wasted time”, because they are really so much more than that! These are the times when we smile for no reason, we relax, and we laugh. These are the moments that make us happy.
So next time you berate yourself for wasting time, don’t! Because any time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time.
