I recently finished a book that was, quite frankly, awe-inspiring. ‘How a Man Lived in Three Centuries- The Complete Guide to Natural Health’ by Roger French tells the true story of Eric Storm, a hard-partying heavy drinker and smoker who suffered a near-fatal heart attack at the age of 34. This experience caused him to change the way he lived drastically, by adopting the good eating and exercise habits of a natural healthy lifestyle as set forth by the Natural Health Society of Australia.
This book is written as part novel and part self-help guide. It focuses on lifestyle choices such as avoiding processed foods and toxins, de-stressing and the importance of exercise, as well as offering natural remedies to common ailments like Arthritis and Rheumatism. The author produces a compelling case for the benefits of a natural healthy lifestyle by offering guidelines on how you too can overcome illness and achieve a long, healthy and ultimately happy life, whilst simultaneously backing it up with easy to read, real-world verification.
How a Man Lived in Three Centuries is definitely an interesting read. It made me take a look at my lifestyle and recognise all the ways that I am potentially harming my health. You’ll be happy to hear that I have taken some positive steps- I now exercise regularly and I’ll (usually) reach for an apple instead of a biscuit. I haven’t given up my biggest vice yet though, which is chocolate, and I don’t know if I can. I think that sometimes you have to bend the rules, just a little bit 🙂
